marathon '06

Today we took in the splendor of our first Boston Marathon. The elite racers put on a show, the fans were boisterous, and our friend BC gutted out a 3hr 19min to which all involved earn many congrats.

See if you can find BC in the picture below:

Our apartment is conveniently located on Hereford St in Boston's Back Bay. This give us excellent proximity to shopping, restaurants, public transportation, both BU and MIT, and -- of course -- the Boston Marathon. In mile 25 of the race, the course makes a short, two-block hitch from Commonwealth Ave through Hereford St to the final few blocks on Boylston St. That means our building's roof affords us great views of the race spectacle. We will report back about the marathon goings-on tomorrow. Until then, Happy Easter and Happy Patriot's Day.

tulips but not cherry blossoms

Elissa and I were in Washington D.C. two weeks back with hopes of catching the reknowned cherry blossom season. Unfortunately hard rains and an early bloom were against us and the blossom peak had passed. Luckily, the tulip garden maintained by the National Park Service just off the Mall was in bloom. On the non-botanical side of the trip, we got to visit some high school friends from Minnesota and my cousin who works in D.C. We also registered our first visits to the National Holocaust Museum and the National Museum of the American Indian, which both got high marks. Oh, and the D.C. metro win points over Boston for cleanliness and cool display boards.
